tried to back-form a verb equivalent to "inception" and came to the unpleasant realization that it would have to be "inceive"
could just as easily be "incept"
it could be but that bothers me because it’s inconsistent with existing English words using the -ceive/-ception suffix
receive : reception ::
deceive : deception ::
conceive : conception ::
perceive : perception
conversely, “accept” as a noun becomes acceptance
“inceive” is a wretched little verb but it is one we cannot deny
looks like this could be bc “inception” was borrowed into english directly from latin, while all the others followed the expected development thru french and into english: latin capiō > french -cev(oir) > english -ceive
accept(ance) would’ve followed a similar route had it not been for the -t- which looks like prevented the p>v transformation in french (why we can’t have “acception” idk, feels like it could’ve been derived) (we do have “acceptation” tho via french from latin, so you’ll have to talk to the romans abt why they said it like that)
as for latin incipere, looks like it doesn’t have any descendants in western romance, but it does in romanian and romansch so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
etymologies are fun
that is fascinating! and it looks like that (or something close to it) might also be the root of the “exception” exception some people have pointed out - evidently it’s derived from “excepcion” and thence “exceptionem”
weirdest part about being an artist (and, to an extent, a writer too) is feeling like. shameful that you aren't creating massive pieces of art. how dare i not line and color and shade every drawing. how dare i only draw two poses. how dare i only write 1k words. how dare i not write an entire book. how dare i
(looking at the near 1k pieces of art in my folder and the thousands of words in my notes) you know i just don't think i do enough actually
